IMMEDIATE JOB OPENING – Therapeutic Recreation
 
St. Louis Society for the Physically Disabled (aka St. Louis Society; www.stlsociety.org), a United Way agency serving children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities since 1927, has an immediate opening for the following full-time position:
 
Youth Coordinator/Adult Community Training Specialist
 
A.               YOUTH COORDINATOR (approx 60%)
Coordinate (plan, promote, implement) all phases of St. Louis Society Youth Programming
§         One-week Summer Sports Camp
§         Year-round community recreation programming
§         After-school programming
 
Duties include:
-monitor budget
-recruit participants
-recruit and train part-time staff
-staff programs when necessary
-obtain and organize necessary information on participants
-work/communicate with funding sources
-develop, track, and report goals and outcomes to funding sources
-assist Executive Director and the Director of Development in providing necessary information for
fundraising purposes
-survey participants and parents regarding program effectiveness
-work with Transportation Coordinator to ensure prompt and efficient transportation for participants
-establish and maintain relationships with youth, parents, and peers.
-other duties as deemed necessary
 
 
B.               ADULT COMMUNITY TRAINING SPECIALIST (approx 40%)
 
Works with other St. Louis Society Community Training Specialists in organizing and supervising small-group community-based activities for adults with a wide variety of physical and developmental disabilities. The CTS will help individuals in the development and utilization of their abilities so that they may become increasingly more confident, self-sufficient and independent. 
 
Duties include:
-recruit participants
-staff programs developed by self and participants
-supervise part-time staff and volunteers on programs
-obtain and organize necessary information on participants
-develop, track, and report necessary goals and outcomes
-help survey participants regarding program effectiveness
-work with Transportation Coordinator to ensure prompt and efficient transportation for participants
-establish and maintain relationships with adult participants
-other duties as deemed necessary
 
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS and NOTES:
 
-Bachelor’s Degree REQUIRED
-Education/Experience in working with individuals with physical disabilities preferred but not required
-Commitment to helping and enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities
-Ability to work as part of a team
-Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
-Excellent organizational and time management skills
-Ability to develop/track goals and outcomes
-Occasional evening and weekend work
-Must have own transportation
-BasicMath/Financial Skills and Understanding: The ability to put together a budget and make necessary adjustments in accordance with that budget (Note: Assistance provided)
-Flexible schedule
-Excellent benefits

North County Regional Coordinator of Inclusive Recreation

The cities of Bellefontaine Neighbors, Bridgeton, Ferguson, Florissant, Hazelwood, and St. Ann are seeking qualified applicants for the full time position of North County Regional Coordinator of Inclusive Recreation. The successful candidate will identify persons with disabilities interested in participating in existing Parks and Recreation Programs in the North County Region Cities. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Plan, develop, and implement a marketing strategy to promote and publicize inclusive recreational programs.
  2. Prepare and present information to targeted populations, parents, caregivers, and social service organizations of persons with developmental disabilities. Writes promotional literature encouraging persons with disabilities to utilize their local Parks and Recreation Department programs/ activities.
  3. Initiates, manages, and coordinates the inclusion of persons with disabilities into existing recreation and leisure programs, and monitors the effectiveness of inclusive recreational programming in order to ensure success and quality services.
  4. Recruits, when necessary, volunteers/companions for participants with disabilities who need assistance in order to successfully participate in activities and programs. Assists the participant(s) in securing needed services and/or adaptive equipment.
  5. Provides In-Service training and consultation for participating Parks and Recreational Staff of participating Cities, and acts as a topic expert and resource person to all city staff regarding developmental disability issues.
Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Education, or related field; with professional certification preferred. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, through knowledge of the American’s with Disabilities Act, and have experience with individuals with disabilities. 
 
Starting Salary: $38,000-45,000 depending upon experience and qualifications
